Cantilever rack is the ideal solution for storing big, lengthy or odd sized goods like flooring rolls, sheet rock or lumber. It allows you to store bulky products with greater efficiency and in far greater quantities.

While most goods pass through the supply chain on standard size pallets, there are quite a few exceptions. In many situations, there are some products that just can’t be loaded onto a standard pallet. Whether it’s sheetrock, lumber, steel goods, furniture or other items that are bulky, long or oddly shaped, certain goods are just tough to store.

Cantilever rack solves this problem. It allows you to warehouse bulky items more compactly and in larger quantities. In place of just stacking products in a storage yard or on a warehouse floor, you can use vertical space.

Using vertical storage also permits you to maintain a greater assortment of items, since you can simply retrieve an item off of a cantilever tier instead of maintaining different stacks of specific items.

Heavy Duty Cantilever Rack

Cantilever racks are not at all like standard pallet racking. Cantilever is supported by a steel foundation that is fastened to a vertical steel beam. The upright has horizontal arms mounted at different levels to hold goods. This type of racking structure can support a surprising amount of weight. Certain cantilever systems can hold loads of more than 20,000 pounds per arm.

Single Sided Cantilever Rack vs Double Sided

The majority of cantilever shelving systems offer variations for one sided racking to be positioned near walls, and double sided racking that can be configured in aisles.

One major benefit to cantilever rack is its ability to be freely adjusted. In the event your needs change, you can easily readjust cantilever sections and heights.

An additional convenience is that the open layout of cantilever rack allows your forklifts unfettered access to items that are generally challenging to manage. As an added benefit, having open racks provides for improved visibility, allowing employees to find products without any problem.

Industries Where Cantilever Racks Are Used

While many industries have a handful of long or awkward sorts of items, there are some industries that make extensive use of cantilever:

  • Building Supply: wood, sheetrock, ducting and plywood are just a few building products that are bulky and troublesome to store.
  • Production: many fabrication businesses use steel tube and bar stock, steel plate and other elongated or outsized materials in their assembly processes.
  • Oil & Gas: the energy industry uses a lot of drilling equipment, piping and steel stock.
  • Home Accessories: carpeting, floor covering, countertops and large furniture pieces are all good examples of oversized, awkward goods that are challenging to store.
