Lift Trucks can be put to use for much more than just lifting and moving pallets. With the proper accessories, lift trucks can be employed for several other applications throughout your operation.

There are also highly specialized attachments for difficult to handle items like forgings and castings, 55 gallon drums, paper rolls and other oversized or awkward products. While quite a few attachments are widely used and familiar, others are not. Here is a synopsis of some of the more common attachments used in the material handling industry:

Forklift Clamp Attachment

Several types of clamp attachments exist, and they are each intended for a specific purpose. Some of the more common clamps are:

Carton Clamp:

Carton clamps are generally used to grasp large rectangular or square products that don't require a pallet like large electronics or appliances. They are also a good option for handling fragile products when equipped with an automatic pressure sensing system.

Paper Roll Clamp:

Paper roll clamps are commonly used in applications such as newspaper presses, paper manufacturing and tissue manufacturing. They can be used for most different dimensions of paper rolls, and can be outfitted with automatic pressure controls and varying gripper pads that help avoid damage to the paper.

Forklift Jib Attachment

Lift jibs allow for versatile lifting of long, bulky objects, such as pipes, tubes, and bar stock. There are even lift jibs for exceptionally unwieldy and heavy products like stone slabs. The forklift lift jib slides onto both forks and is attached to the lift truck with a safety chain. Adaptable hooks are mounted along the jib, giving the operator the ability to move goods of many different sizes and lengths.

Forklift Attachments To Move Trailers

Trailer mover attachments can be a convenient method of moving towable trailers around an operation without connecting a tow vehicle. The attachment has a standard ball trailer hitch and a safety chain. Once the trailer is hitched, it can be maneuvered easily and in tighter spaces than with average tow vehicles.

Forklift Drum Attachment

Drum handlers are designed to grasp the outside of a drum cylinder and make it much easier to manage heavy steel, fiber or plastic drums. Most are set up to handle one or two drums at a time.

Forklift Extensions

Extensions allow you to manage oddly shaped or large loads with greater stability. The operator simply slides the forks into the extensions and secures them in place, giving the forklift longer forks to handle bulky loads.

Fork Positioners

Positioners are very common. They enable you to hydraulically adjust the space between your forks. This permits faster and more efficient management of different sized pallets and objects.

Push Pull Forklift Attachment

Push / pull attachments (sometimes referred to as Slipsheet Forklift Attachments) are used for processing loads that use slip sheets instead of pallets. They are commonly used for bagged goods like grains or cement, and food items like dairy, fruit and packaged food. Slipsheets are used instead of pallets, freeing up space and reducing the expense of pallets.
